Objective

Born in China, I came to the United States when I was 10. In my films, I gravitate towards individuals at the border cultures. My work invites people of different backgrounds to find the common thread in humanity. My goal is to make the watching of the film as entertaining and rewarding as my making of the film.

Better Than Blue (2010) In rural China in 1987, Young Wang Zhang finds his father in despair. Upset, Wang runs away from his father. Only after he runs off with his friends does he realize the true value of his father’s love. (5min, HiDef)

For The Service Of The People (2009) is Lin’s MFA graduating thesis film from CalArts portraying a poignant and detailed study of a father who lived through the Cultural Revolution. Now a father of a filmmaker, he explains what it’s like to have what you need but not what you want. Also, if one pays attention he will reveal the secret to filmmaking in two sentences. Dog Stories (2008) tells the story of two filmmakers’ coming of age story and their acceptance of responsibility. (3min, 35mm)

A Month and Some Days (2008) is a story of how we deal with love gained and lost. (13min, HDV)

Self Portrait 2 (2006) challenges my relations to and perceptions of the self. The film continues the chronicling of the changes in my understanding and dealings of my image as I develop as a filmmaker. (3min, 16mm)
